Transfer from Tbilisi to Omalo

You might have already read about road conditions to Omalo, you could also have watched some videos on YouTube, or might have heard, that the road to Omalo is one of the most dangerous roads of the world, according to BBC. Dangerous, not because of rubbery, or stuff like that, the road to Omalo is very narrow, has many bends, goes under Rock hangs and sometimes falls away into really nothing – sounds really great, but the landscape of the region of Tusheti is definitely worth of making this road.
Only thing you need to is, to find a reliable car and driver. Some of the people are trying to find some cheap Taxis to drive to Omalo, usually they do not find any volunteers, but if they find one, it ends up in the best case, with getting stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

When is the road open to Omalo?
There is no fixed time, but usually it opens in the middle of Mai and clothes at the end of October, or end of September, it depends very much on weather conditions.
Sometimes if it rains too much, it’s possible that the road will be closed for several days, even in august. The best thing to do is, to obtain the necessary information about road condition, before you start your journey to Omalo.

How long does it take to get from Tbilisi to Omalo?
There are 190 kilometers from Tbilisi to Omalo (if you drive via Gombori Pass) and it takes approximately 7 hrs. with some brakes.

The last possibility to buy some food or drinks before you get to Omalo, is the village Pshaveli. In upper Omalo itself there is a very good bakery and some small cafes. There are also some nice accommodations and they offer delicious Georgian food, especially if you stay there overnight.
